Beckham To Help Close Beijing Olympics

According to Digital Spy David Beckham will appear at the Beijing Olympics closing ceremony on August 24.

According to People, the LA Galaxy and England footballer is the “surprise finale” at the showcase event.

Beckham’s cameo marks the transfer of the Summer Olympics from Beijing to London.

“They always have a segment to do the handover, to showcase the next city to host the Olympics,” said a source.

“[David Beckham] was very involved in the London bid to get it, and as a Londoner he is incredibly proud that the Olympics will be in London.

“He is passionate about it and looking forward to the games in 2012.”

Leona Lewis is also expected to perform at the event.

Dita Von Teese: Victoria Beckham Brings Glamour To LA

According to people.com Dita Von Teese is really happy that Victoria Beckham moved to the States – because she thinks Americans have lot learn from her fashion sense.

The burlesque dancer says she befriended with Posh after realizing that they have common taste in fashion.

‘I think Victoria is amazing,’ she says. ‘She has a fantastic sense of humour and they are a beautiful, amazing couple to be around.

‘We are always going through our favourite vintage clothes and we have been to the fashion shows together.’

‘It’s great to have a little bit more glamour, like her, in LA.’

But Dita, 35, real name Heather Sweet, is upset about tabloid reports that she had text messaged to Viki’s hubby David.

‘I’m friends with the Beckhams collectively as a couple,’ she says.

‘And it makes me upset that somebody would even insinuate what they are insinuating.’

Beckhams Love LA

The Beckhams moved to LA a year ago, when David signed a contract with the LA Galaxy.

Now it seems the family is satisfied with their lives in America. The soccer star blogged on hs site, “It seems like only a few weeks ago I arrived in Los Angeles with my family ready for the next chapter in our lives. A year later and we feel so settled here, everyone loves California and everyone has made us feel so welcome. I can’t imagine being anywhere else in the world right now.”

David added that his teammates and fans are wonderful, “My [LA Galaxy] teammates have been great to me and we have a brilliant set of fans. I’m thankful to them and to the people of Los Angeles for making my family and I so welcome since we arrived here.”

Victoria Beckham’s 34th Birthday @ Pink Taco

Victoria Beckham celebrated her 34th birthday at Pink Taco restaurant in Los Angeles with hubby David Beckham and her sons Brooklyn, 9, Romeo, 5, and Cruz, 3, past Thursday.

The Beckham family were dressing casually and the kids are spotted in balloons. They were immediately surrounded by a swarm of paparazzi, all trying to get a money shot of Victoria’s special day.

Cruz who looked so adorable and innocent greeted the paparazzi with one of his finger. How cute is that!

David Beckham Visits Sierra Leone for UNICEF

David Beckham made a four days visit to Sierra Leone last weekend on behalf of UNICEF.

“We can’t turn a blind eye to the tens of thousands of young children who die every day in the developing world mostly from causes that are preventable. In Sierra Leone, one in four children dies before reaching their fifth birthday – it’s shocking and tragic especially when the solutions are simple - things like vaccinations against measles or using a mosquito net to reduce the chance of getting malaria.” - David Beckham

David visit to the nation which miserably suffered 12 years of civil war - where child deaths are the highest in the world - to witness how UNICEF programmes are helping children to survive and to draw attention to this issue. He even participated in a roadside football (soccer) game.

UNICEF’s representative in Sierra Leone, Geert Cappelaere noted that in addition to the excitement generated by Mr. Beckham’s visit, the tour had a serious underlying purpose.

“David Beckham’s visit is important for UNICEF’s global health agenda,” Mr. Cappelaere said. “Child survival is one of the top priorities of UNICEF. His visit will help support our global drive to improve the health of children and women.”

Malaria, a disease which kills at least 800,000 children under the age of five each year in sub-Saharan Africa.

A friend of Beckham reveals that the father of three has long helped under-privileged children.

“He works a lot with charity and has his own with [wife Victoria Beckham],” says a friend. “A lot of the work he does is behind the scenes and he doesn’t want publicity. But this trip is about making people aware of the issue to help funding.”
